Understanding the Codes of Time Study Training

Posted by Pam Katz, CompuClaim on Fri, Nov 22, 2013

To increase overall Medicaid reimbursement, CompuClaim recommends that your school district provide all Time Study participants coding training during the week of their Time Study.

In the 2012 Administration Claims Manual, the guide states "All employees and contracted providers participating in the time study should be adequately trained in the time study process before participating in a time study."

Our CompuClaim team recommends that the time study training be completed during the week of the time study, because it is pertinent for staff and can result in an increase in the district's overall reimbursement. If the training is done during the week of the time study, it can be coded as Medicaid Specific Training (code 8B) which is a reimbursed activity code.time study training

CompuClaim offers your school district the following assistance by providing any of the following Time Study code training options:

  • Our Rhode Island team members are flexible and willing to help.  A school district can request a CompuClaim team member to come and train their Time study participants in the coding process.

  • Another option that also involves one of our team members is to have them "train the trainer" per say.  In other words they would come explain the time study coding to a designated school district staff member  who would then provide training support to their time study participants.

  • The final option for time study code training can be done by having staff members watch an online module of the training on the UMASS site. These two 10-15 minute modules are available to help properly train all providers in time study coding.

The links to the modules are provided below:

Our Rhode Island CompuClaim team members are flexible and willing to provide support.  We are always available to answer questions regarding the RI Time Study and answer specific questions concerning coding staff activities. We stress the importance that the Time Study submitted reflect the variety of activities that take place during the Time Study week and how to report activities under the appropriate time study codes. Our training packets provide useful reference materials for all our RI clients.
